Fort Simpson, with a population of 1257 (as of 1996), was formerly called by the traditional name
of Liidli Koe (meaning "place where rivers come together" -- canting), is located on an
island at 61°51'N lat. and 121°22'W long., on the forks of the Mackenzie and Liard Rivers.
Local languages are South Slavey and English, and the community belongs to the electoral
district of Nahendeh and to land claim area of Deh Cho Treaty 11.
